With this method, deposits in the carotid artery (Arteria carotis)  can be detected and the remaining blood flow determined.

In this way, stenosis (narrowing) can be quantified.

All stenosis under 40% is irrelevant for blood flow to the brain. There is still sufficient blood flow available for cerebral perfusion.

High-grade stenosis of 80% must in most cases be treated.
